Minister of Energy and Water
Development Hon. Felix C. Mutati has appointed a new Board for the Energy
Regulation Board (ERB). This is in accordance with Section 3 of the Energy
Regulation Act Chapter 436, of the Laws of Zambia.
The new Board comprises of seven
part-time members including three from the previous Board and four new members.
The members of the new Board are from various backgrounds including law,
engineering, business and accounts.
The Board is still chaired by
Mrs. Mwangala Zaloumis, while Dr. Lemba Nyirenda is the Vice Chairperson. Other
members of the Board are Mr. Romance Sampa, Mr. Essau Nebwe, Mr. Caleb Mulenga,
Ms. Mary Ncube and Mr. Nonny Mwanyungwi.
In appointing the new Board, Hon.
Mutati observed that the energy sector in Zambia was at a critical juncture with
shortages of electric power domestically and within the SADC region envisaged in
the short to medium term.
He also highlighted the current
challenges of international oil price instability and guaranteeing the supply of
petroleum products on the Zambian market.
The new Board was therefore
expected to play a critical role in addressing these major challenges to ensure
that the energy sector continues to effectively contribute to the national
